Background
The Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet section of the North–South Expressway Eastern Corridor project is where high access roads require the use of MSE. In particular, if the traditional abutment method is used at the DT711 overpass, the four–cone range will be wide beyond the allowable boundary. That’s why the mix abutment solution was considered.
Following the paper introducing MSE abutment technology, we have successfully approved the first project to apply this technology in Vietnam.
Started in 2023, the missions included the design work of MSE wall structures, the supply of the moulds, materials and service of technical assistance.

Solution
2 access ramps using MSE walls structures were built, as well as 2 mixed abutments that will remain in history as the very first of its kind in Viet Nam. This solution of 1,700 m² of MSE walls and reaching a maximum height of 12 meters was not only met the requirement of minimal foot–print but also proved the cost–effective and efficient alternative to the proposed cast in–situretaining walls and abutment.
